The text from David Agasi’s postcard is as follows:

“Andy Summers recounts the early 80's:

“‘In North America Reagan is God and his presidency sets a new scene that will lead in twenty years to an administration that will become servile to polluters, fossil-fuel extractors, and fanatical religious fundamentalists of every stripe except Islam; be hostile to science; embrace fiscal insolvency; and transubstantiate worldwide solidarity into worldwide anti-Americanism. But the eighties will be looked back upon as a golden era.’”

“19 Aug 2021 — No desks in the galleries. No places to sit and write sensibly, so my back soaks up the hours. While driving I- to work, we caught sight of a rainbow. I’ve always considered it a slight antidote to bad luck. This ‘second COVID summer’ has felt exceptionally weird as people still feel so exceptionally far away. Meanwhile, Amazon rules supreme because so little magic is allowed to happen... We are more easily persuaded to pay attention to unnecessary escape; if one may even call it that. I‘ve been reading short stories by Ivan Vladislavić which are really quite good. The rain is now steadily falling. Tomorrow, the plan is to drive to Albany and on to Delmar to have dinner and drinks with J-, B-, A-, and perhaps a few others. There is a certain fascination in driving to places one has never been, and Delmar is one of them. As I am
