Spread Freedom
The following is a link to a song I wrote to go with Rachel LaFond’s piano piece ‘Serpentine,’ which I am using with permission:
As a writer, I am currently writing lyrics for music I am cathartically affected by. Those lyrics, I hope, remain consistent with current events, mainly, in this case what I feel is a need to clarify why any American, for that matter, has been so intently interested in governmental affairs. I believe that both sides are very close in their interests and needs for governmental representation. The world is a harsh place. Our beliefs, attitudes, and values are closely aligned. We just need a unifying view that takes into account the similar rage that we may feel as our livelihoods are being threatened by Capitalism, or whatever is making it harder to live. While a “fight” song may not relate to those on the left as it may for those on the right, there is a genuine desire by both sides to make things better. That’s where we agree. We want to fight for our needs to be met. We both want freedom.
Spread Freedom
Linked to sorrow
Nightingale mourns
The moon’s a sparkler
In the sky
Somber moments
Chill the air
Fortune stirs the
Cleverest among us.
We partake of
the gentle season’s smile.
In the night,
We stare into
Each other’s eyes.
I travel with you through the trees.
Into the snow, our shoes sink
To curb our progress,
But angels are due
To sit with us,
In the clean air
Angels are due to survey
The state of affairs
We know where we stand.
We stand together:
Facing the truth
Facing the sky
Facing the sun
Facing each other,
And knowing the way.
We are in unison.
We are true friends.
We are friends, indeed.
The long-awaited attendance
To our needs.
We are free
We are free
Free to be. — Mario Savioni
