I think people can be all of these things and context influences their behavior. In fact, like encountering words or thoughts, like your Swedish fraud, we embrace ideas, and then move away from them even though they may be the truth. We are constantly trying on new ideas. Our minds are limited to metaphors. Our “science” is “proof” of ideas, awareness based on sense data. So, even if your fraudster is a fraud, the entertainment of his ideas is a personality characteristic, just as narcissistic personality disorder afflicts an entire electorate in the USA, because the people themselves have been abused or spoiled. Mother Nature seems to be teaching man to be sensitive to everyone, because COVID-19 is reducing sociological walls, where we used to be plagued by the thought, “Oh, that poor person over there,” having feigned empathy. But, COVID-19 has made working from home necessary to escape contagion and taught business to reach out to the world for labor. So now there are less and less geographical boundaries. So now that poor person over there is now you. And so whatever personality was assigned to someone, who had to live on the low end of Maslow’s Hierarchy, may now be able to rise even to self-actualize. Personality is a reaction to circumstance. We are all capable of joy and sorrow, for example.
