I know I pick my books three ways: 1. They are in the philosophy section, 2. They are novels, or 3. They are Granta or The Paris Review. And in the aforementioned areas, I often pick a book by its cover and some reading of the text. I read books for how they are written, not so much about storyline. Last time I bought stuff was a whole bunch of Poetry issues.
