A man came into a cafe with lots of watches on his arm. He went through the cafe and stood in front of almost everyone and said: "What's your name?" in a loud manner. I watched as he went from person-to-person and when I saw that a woman was uncomfortable and he kept repeating the question, I stood up and intervened. I told him: "You are making people uncomfortable. You should leave." He seemed to have been affected by me and he left shortly after. But, I felt odd. It was like no one was going to do anything and that he really wasn't a problem. In fact, I believe I found a slogan in the cafe that said something about giving people a second chance. The cafe is themed on hiring people who have been in jail and got themselves together and were trying to succeed, so I saw the connection to this event. Anyway, I guess to point is that men, at least, I consider the effect of someone on others before I intervene, but I could have misread the room. I once stopped a much taller man who was driving his car through a parking structure and smashing into cars. I chased him and when he got out, I took him down to the front desk of the building and had them call the police. I felt the absurdity while in the elevator as to how unsafe that probably was. Anyway, I went to his court case and testified as to his behavior and he was later sentenced. And when I saw him at the courthouse, he was a lot bigger than I was. Some men cannot help but help women, but there is also the story of a man who was lying on the ground below a three story building. His face was smashed as much as a half of his face, so that only one eye was rolling around in his socket as it looked at me. Apparently, he had intervened in a domestic argument and the male of the two threw him off the building and he landed on his head. I am sure he died or was severely brain damaged.
